Common Name: Dogtooth Tuna
Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific: Red Sea to east Africa, French Polynesia, north to Japan, south to Australia. In Australia recorded from northern Western Australia, Queensland and south to northern New South Wales.
Ecological Notes: Frequents offshore rocky or coral areas near deeper dropoffs, larger fish may be solitary or in small groups of up to six. Depth from 10 to 250 m.
Additional Notes: Back and upper sides blue-black, belly silvery. Has rounded lower jaw and white tips to the dorsal and anal fin, large mouth with large teeth. Feeds on smaller schooling fishes and squid. Grows to 248 cm.
