Distribution: Common throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-West Pacific region, from South Africa and the Red Sea to Tuamoto in the Pacific, north to southern Japan, south to Lord Howe Island. In Australia recorded from around Geraldton in Western Australia across the tropical north, throughout Queensland and south to the Solitary Islands.
Ecological Notes: Prefers protected, often turbid waters, and colonies may be many metres across.
Additional Notes: An aggressive coral, the polyps may extend up to 40cm and attack other corals within reach, as such it is unusual to see other coral species growing close by.
