Distribution: Rare in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Recorded from Sth Africa, Red Sea, Arabian Sea, Japan. In Australia recorded from central and northern Western Australia, the northern Great Barrier Reef south to at least Victoria (Port Phillip Bay) on the east coast and including Lord Howe Island.

Ecological Notes: Found on reef to a depth of at least 21 m. Feeds on sponges.

Additional Notes: Red reticulate pattern on mantle and yellow line around foot helps in identification of this species. Similarly coloured Goniobranchus reticulatus has 14 to 16 gills compared to this species which has 8 to 10. Grows to around 70 mm.
