Common Name: Luderick
Distribution: Abundant throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed through the Western Pacific region, Australia and New Zealand. In Australia ranges from southern Queensland to South Australia, including Tasmania.
Ecological Notes: Frequent estuarine, rocky reef and inshore coastal habitats. Juveniles and adults alike in seagrass areas, often in large schools. Depth from shallow to 20 m.
Additional Notes: Variable colour from grey to bronze, with ten to twelve distinct dark vertical stripes. Feeds primarily on seagrasses, filamentous algae and cabbage weed. Sought after sport fish. Grows to 71 cm but commonly 35 cm.
