Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-West Pacific Oceans, from South Africa to Australia and Japan. In Australia recorded from around Geraldton in Western Australia, across the tropical north, the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef in Queensland south to the Sunshine Coast.

Ecological Notes: Frequents healthy coral reef areas to a depth of 25 m.

Additional Notes: Colour variable, dark orange to red, thin black veins criss-cross the body, distinguishing it from similar Fromia polypora, but may also have pale to brown background colour with contrasting raised nodules on the dorsal surface. Grows to around 90 mm across.
