Common Name: Chinaman Rockcod
Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Known from Indo-West Pacific: East Africa to the western Pacific, southward into temperate waters of South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. In Australia recorded from Western Australia, coastal Queensland south to southern New South Wales, and including Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands.
Ecological Notes: Occurs on coral reefs, areas with rocky substrata, algal flats and seagrass beds. Depth range shallow to at least 150 m.
Additional Notes: Khaki colouration with consistent barred markings, yellowish tips on dorsal spines. Solitary species that feeds on fishes and crustaceans. Small juvenile top picture. Grows to 35 cm.
