Ecsenius bicolor
(Day, 1888)

Common Name: Bicolor Combtooth Blenny

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific: Maldives to Micronesia and the Phoenix Islands, north to the Ryuku Islands, south to the southern Great Barrier Reef. In Australia it is recorded from the central West Australian coast to northern New South Wales and including Lord Howe Island.

Ecological Notes: Frequents seaward reefs with mixed coral and algae substrate. Solitary or in pairs, often darting into holes or crevices when alarmed. Depths from the shallows to 25 m.

Additional Notes: Variable in colour, usually grey or black front and yellow/orange towards the tail, sometimes uniform grey or dark above fading to yellow/orange and white below the midline. Dark eye with silver iris. Grows to 11 cm.
