Distribution: Abundant in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Known from the central and western Pacific region. In Australia recorded from northern Western Australia, through Northern Territory and Queensland south to the Victorian border.
Ecological Notes: May be found under rocks, often in silty habitat. Intertidal and subtidal to10 m depth.
Additional Notes: Solid shell with eight broad, low axial folds, crossed by fine heavily scaled spiral ribs, forming a black or dark brown background. Outer lip toothed, columella smooth, aperture white or light orange, operculum brown and corneus. Grows to a maximum of 40 mm, commonly 25 mm.
