Conus miliaris

Common Name: Thousand Spot Cone Shell

Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Recorded from the Indo-West Pacific region. In Australia recorded from the Exmouth region of Western Australia, across the tropical north, the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, south to Sydney in New South Wales.

Ecological Notes: Intertidal species to a depth of around 10 m. Feeds on polychaete worms.

Additional Notes: Moderately light to heavy in weight, the shell is yellowish to chestnut or grey, encircled with lines of darker brown spots, hence its common name in some areas as the Thousand Spot Coneshell. The spire is low to medium height and straight to convex in outline, whorls coronate. The aperture is wider at base. Grows to 43 mm in length.
