Distribution: Possibly common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Recorded from the Indo-West Pacific region. In Australia recorded from the North West Shelf region of Western Australia, throughout the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef in Queensland south as far as Sydney in New South Wales. 

Ecological Notes: Intertidal and subtidal, shallow to at least 3 m. Prefers rocky shores, feeds on polychaete worms.

Additional Notes: Shell solid and heavy with distinctive colouration of three to four rows of brown to black blotches on a white or pale background. Spire low to moderate height, straight or convex in outline, usually eroded. Aperture narrow. Abundant in tropics, less so in southern part of range. Grows to 62 mm length but generally 25 to 30 mm.
