Common Name: Talbot’s Demoiselle
Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Western Pacific: Andaman Sea in the eastern Indian Ocean to Fiji, north to Palau, south to the southern Great Barrier Reef. Recently recorded from Tonga. In Australia recorded from the northern Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea and northern New South Wales.
Ecological Notes: Adults frequent coral-rich areas of seaward reef slopes and deep lagoons, usually seen on areas of coral and rubble. Depth from about 6 m to at least 35 m.
Additional Notes: Pink grey body with bright yellow forehead and face, prominent black spot below mid dorsal fin. Usually solitary in depressions in the reef. Feed on zooplankton in mid water close to the bottom. Males guard and aerate the eggs which adhere to the substrate. Grows to 6 cm.
