Common Name: Yellowspot Puller

Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Two isolated populations: the northern population from southern Japan, Ryuku Islands and Taiwan, and a southern population in the Coral Sea, New Caledonia, Loyalty Islands, Lord Howe Island and east coast of Australia between the southern Great Barrier Reef and Montague Island in southern New South Wales and including Lord Howe Island.

Ecological Notes: Frequents shallow rocky and reef systems to 45m depth. May be found in loose aggregations or small schools, feed on zooplankton in the water column.

Additional Notes: Yellow scissortail and prominent black spot at base of pectoral fin, and black anal fin distinguish this species. Juveniles with pointed head with large eye. Distinct pairing during breeding, following which eggs are attached to the substrate. Eggs are guarded and aerated by the males. Previously known as Chromis flavomaculata. Grows to 16 cm.
