Common Name: Silver Gull
Distribution: Mainland Australia and Tasmania. Also found in New Caledonia and New Zealand.
Ecological Notes: The Silver Gull inhabits coastal bays and beaches, offshore islands, inland lakes and urban areas. In non-urban areas the Silver Gull’s diet consists of insects, worms, crustaceans and fish. In areas of human habitation they will scavenge leftovers and garbage and reach nuisance-levels around dumps and marinas.
Additional Notes: Silver Gulls nest in large colonies on offshore islands. It rarely ventures far from land.
