Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Known from the Indo-West Pacific and the tropical West Atlantic ocean. In Australia known from Lord Howe Island and the east coast at least as far south as Sydney. Also reported from the Kermadec Islands in New Zealand.

Ecological Notes: A sand dwelling species that preys on small flatworms and polychaete worms. Can occur abundantly in summer months on sand patches and sheltered reef near the entrance to large estuaries. Depth to at least 15 m, often shallower.

Additional Notes: This species very variable in colour, usually a combination of green or blue with yellow/orange lines. Best recognised by the pronounced pair of tapering tails and the straight yellow/orange line on the front of the head. Grows to 40 mm, but is usually smaller.
