Cheilodactylus vestitus
(Castelnau, 1879)

Common Name: Crested Morwong

Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Found throughout the Great Barrier Reef and south to central New South Wales. Also at Norfolk and Lord Howe Islands and New Caledonia.

Ecological Notes: Adults frequent rocky and coral reef waters to a depth of about 20 m, juveniles in estuaries and shallow coastal waters.

Additional Notes: Predominantly white body with four or five black diagonal stripes, the last continuing to the lower lobe of the caudal fin. Usually solitary or in small groups, feed on small invertebrates and worms. Grows to 35 cm.
