Common Name: Knobbed Triton
Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed around southern Australia from Swain Reefs in central Queensland to Abrolhos Islands in Western Australia, and including Tasmania.
Ecological Notes: Commonly found in intertidal areas on exposed rocky shores and trawled from depths of at least 500 m.
Additional Notes: Background colour fawn to brown with irregular dark brown axial streaks. Sculptured with strong spiral ribs, interior white, outer lip lirae brown and operculum oval. Feeds on sea urchins and sea stars, immobilising prey with toxic saliva extruded through the proboscis. Grows to 265 mm in length.
