Common Name: Queensland Yellowtail Angelfish

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed through the western Pacific region. In Australia recorded from the Coral Sea, the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, south to central New South Wales and including Lord Howe Island.

Ecological Notes: Frequents coastal reef and open bottoms with coral, sponge or seawhip outcrops to depths of at least 35 m. Juveniles often found among sponges, in bays and estuaries.

Additional Notes: Black body with blue face and white saddle behind the eye, yellow tail. Adults commonly in pairs, usually in deeper water where they feed on tunicates and sponges. Grows to 25 cm.
