Chaetodon lunulatus
(Quoy and Gaimard, 1825)

Common Name: Pinstripe Butterflyfish

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Pacific Ocean, from Australia to the Hawaiian Islands, north to Japan. In Australia recorded from around Geraldton in Western Australia, across the tropical north, throughout the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea, south to around Newcastle in New South Wales. 

Ecological Notes: Frequents coral rich areas, juveniles among branches of small corals, often in lagoons. Depth to 30 m.

Additional Notes: Body pale above darkening to yellow/orange below, with intricate bluish stripes. Feeds exclusively on live corals, small juvenile approximately 20mm in length pictured here. Grows to 14 cm.
