Common Name: Klein’s Butterflyfish
Distribution: Abundant throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Widespread throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific, East Africa to the Central Pacific, north to Japan, south to New South Wales. In Australia recorded from around Exmouth in Western Australia across the tropical north, Queensland and the Coral Sea, south to southern New South Wales, and including Norfolk and Lord Howe Islands.
Ecological Notes: Prefers clear water reefs, deeper lagoons and channels, juveniles secretive among rocks. Depth to 60m at least, most often below 10 m.
Additional Notes: Yellowish brown colouration with blue black band through eye and broad white bands towards front half of body. Usually observed singly or in pairs, feeds mainly on soft coral polyps, algae and plankton. Grows to 15 cm.
