Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Reported from Australia and New Zealand.

Ecological Notes: Prefers rocky reef habitat from low tide mark to a depth of 25 m. Feeds on sponges.

Additional Notes: Extremely variable colouration and pattern, body usually pinkish cream, mantle edges white interspersed with large or small orange patches. The median surface of the mantle with a few large to numerous small orange spots, among which there are numerous small red spots. The gills and rhinophores are deep red with white stripes. Often seen in groups or pairs, and often mating. Grows to 60 mm.
