Common Name: Bigeye Trevally

Distribution: Common throughout Solitary Islands Marine Park. Widespread tropical Indo-Pacific, East Africa to Hawaii, north to southern Japan, south Australia and New Caledonia. Also eastern Pacific. In Australia recorded from Shark Bay in Western Australia, across the tropical north to Queensland and south to Sydney, including Lord Howe Island.

Ecological Notes: Pelagic species, juveniles school in estuaries, adults in deeper water, dropoffs, especially offshore islands and reefs. Depth to at least 96 m

Additional Notes: Often seen working the current line in large schools, or milling in stationary aggregations. Sometimes inquisitive, easily recognised by large eye and white tips to dorsal and anal fins. A sought after sport fish, grows to 80 cm, commonly 60 cm.
