Carangoides orthogrammus
(Jordan and Gilbert, 1882)

Common Name: Thicklip Trevally

Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific ranging from the western Indian Ocean to the Austral Islands, north to Japan, south to Lord Howe Island. Also eastern Central Pacific, Mexico and the Revillagigedo Islands. In Australia recorded northern Western Australia and Queensland south to central New South Wales, including Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands.

Ecological Notes: Pelagic species frequenting sandy basins and channels of offshore reefs and islands. Depth to at least 168 m.

Additional Notes: Sought after sport fish. Scattered yellow spots on body and blue fins aid identification. Feeds on small fish and crustaceans. Grows to 75 cm.
