Common Name: Blacksaddle Toby
Distribution: Common throughout Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed in the Southwest Pacific, including New Caledonia, Norfolk and Kermadec Islands, and New Zealand. In Australia, restricted to New South Wales waters, including Lord Howe Island.
Ecological Notes: Frequents coastal and offshore reefs, sometimes in pairs. Depth to at least 250m.
Additional Notes: Easily identified by double black stripes and black upper and lower margins on caudal fin. Flesh and organs contain toxins and this species should not be eaten. Feeds on a variety of species including worms, algae, small crustaceans and other invertebrates. Grows to 25cm.
