Brachaelurus waddi
(Bloch and Schneider, 1801)

Common Name: Blind Shark

Distribution: Abundant in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Endemic to eastern Australia, ranges from southern Queensland to southern New South Wales. Records from Western Australia need confirmation.

Ecological Notes: Frequents relatively shallow coastal and offshore waters. Adults usually under ledges or amongst corals and reef while young found in high surge zones. Feeds on a variety of invertebrates. Depth from intertidal areas to 140 m.

Additional Notes: Colour varies from black to brown, sometimes with broad bands and pale spots. Often caught by rock fisherman, normally nocturnal. Harmless species which grows to 66 cm.
