Scorpis lineolata (Kner, 1865)

Common Name: 
Silver Sweep
Distribution: 

Abundant throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Endemic to Australia and northern New Zealand. In Australia recorded from north of Brisbane in Queensland, south to South Australia and including Tasmania.

Ecological Notes: 

Frequents coastal reefs and offshore islands, juveniles in estuaries and rock pools. Depth 1 - 30 m.

Additional Notes: 

Uniform grey green, darker above, often in schools numbering thousands in mid water. On calm days may be seen breaking the water surface. Feeds on algae and zooplankton in the water column. Grows to 30 cm.
