Distribution:

Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Known from Indo-Pacific region: East Africa to Hawaii, north to Japan, south to Australia. In Australia recorded from Exmouth in Western Australia and the North West Shelf, in Queensland from Torres Strait to northern New South Wales and including Lord Howe Island.

Ecological Notes:

Frequent reef and rocky areas, especially near overhangs and caves. Usually in small groups and often in association with other members of Holocentridae family. Depth range 2-55m.

Additional Notes:

May be distinguished from similar Myripristis murdjan by the higher lateral line scale count (much finer scales). Grows to 15 - 19cm.
