Common Name: Golden Spot Pigfish
Distribution: Common throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-West Pacific from southern Africa to Oceania and Taiwan and southern Japan. In Australia recorded from southern Queensland to Central New South Wales, and mid to northern Western Australia.
Ecological Notes: Adults deep rocky slopes and reef 10 – 120 m. Juveniles often in rocky estuaries.
Additional Notes: Distinct colouration of white patch in front of larger dark patch on back aids identification. Benthic feeder, small invertebrates etc. Grows to 80 cm.
