Common Name: Saddleback Pigfish
Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-West Pacific, east coast of Africa to Japan, the Philippines and New Caledonia. In Australia recorded from Shark Bay and Exmouth region of Western Australia, and southern Queensland.
Ecological Notes: Inhabits coral and rocky reef, shallow lagoons and reef drop offs, to a depth of at least 160 m.
Additional Notes: Usually solitary, adults normally have a oval shaped blue/black spot near the tail, which may be indistinct with age. Feeds on a variety of larger benthic invertebrates. Grows to about 55 cm.
