Distribution: Abundant in the Solitary Island Marine Park. Found around the southern coastlines of Australia from Geraldton Western Australia to Townsville Queensland, and including northern and eastern coastlines of Tasmania.

Ecological Notes: Frequents rocky shores, mid intertidal, including sand, seagrass and mangroves in sheltered estuaries. Often seen on headland rock platforms, may be exposed at low tide.

Additional Notes: Shell is heavy and solid, aperture heavily ribbed internally, porcelain white. Variable colouration, the diagonal black or brown stripes vary in number and width and angle of stripes. Studies have shown the amount of dark banding is proportional to the amount of chlorophyll in the food supply on the substrate.  Grows to 43 mm shell height, but usually 25 mm.
