Aplysia juliana
(Quay and Gaimard, 1832)

Distribution: Common in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. All Australian waters including Tasmania. Circumtropical distribution in tropical and temperate waters.

Ecological Notes: Frequents intertidal and subtidal algal and seagrass habitats. 

Additional Notes: Body with parapodia fused high up at the rear, foot has the sole divided transversely into two sections allowing the animal to crawl along in an inching fashion. Animal is greyish-brown with medial sides of parapodia darker, small but distinct white patch around each eye. Specimen pictured 50 mm in length, discovered in intertidal rock pool. Exudes white fluid when agitated. It is able to use the posterior end of the foot as a temporary sucker, enabling it to extend to reach food sources. Known to reach at least 200 mm in length.
