Anoplocapros inermis
(Fraser-Brunner, 1935)

Common Name: Eastern Smooth Boxfish

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Known from southern Queensland south to Westernport Bay, Victoria.

Ecological Notes: Frequents coastal regions: rocky reefs and deep harbours. Usually a deep water species only rarely seen in shallower depths. Depth to at least 300m.

Additional Notes: Sexes have markedly different colouration. Males have blue bodies with golden sides, while female and juveniles are lighter brown with yellow and brownish blotches. Males have a distinct bump on the snout. Large juvenile pictured here. Grows to 35cm.
