Common Name: Speckled Wrasse
Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Indo-West Pacific region, from the Red Sea and East Africa to Samoa and Tuamoto Islands, north to Southern Japan, south to the Great Barrier Reef. In Australia recorded from Perth in Western Australia, across the tropical north of the continent south to northern New South Wales on the east coast.
Ecological Notes: Frequents areas of coral and mixed rubble, soft coral and sponge habitats on seaward reefs. Depth to 50m.
Additional Notes: Female (pictured) has completely yellow tail, similar Anampses melanurus has yellow tail with broad black rear margin. Grows to 22cm.
