Common Name: Wideband Anemonefish

Distribution: Known only from northern New South Wales to southern Queensland and Lord Howe Island. Relatively common throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park.

Ecological Notes: Locally associated with giant anemone species Heteractis crispa, one of only two giant anemone species found in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Depth to at least 20 m.

Additional Notes: Dark brown with three white bars, the centre bar pyramid shaped. Upper lip tinged with blue. The second most common anemonefish species in the Solitary Island Marine Park. Known to breed locally from egg masses attached to substrate adjacent to host anemone and recently hatched from eggs deposited in captivity at the National Marine Science Centre in Coffs Harbour. Centre photograph shows adult male guarding advanced eggs, lower photograph shows small juvenile about 25 mm in length. Juveniles of this species best separated from similar juvenile Amphiprion akindynos by the complete white band at the caudal peduncle. See 12 mm long captive bred juvenile in bottom photograph. Grows to 12 cm.
