Aluterus scriptus

Common Name: Scribbled Leatherjacket

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Found worldwide in tropical waters. In Australia recorded from Western Australia, Queensland and northern New South Wales.

Ecological Notes: Frequents lagoons and outer reefs, slopes to a depth of 20m.

Additional Notes: Distinctive body shape, blue scribbled pattern and large fan type tail are distinctive. In males the tail may be two thirds the length of the body. Feeds on a variety of benthic life including algae, hydrozoans and colonial anemones. Grows to 110cm.
