Aegires citrinus
(Pruvot-Fol, 1930)

Distribution: Uncommon in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Reported from Hawaii and the Philippines, probable distribution throughout the Indo-Pacific. In Australia also recorded from Brunswick River region in northern New South Wales and Lord Howe Island.

Ecological Notes: Habitat intertidal to shallow subtidal rocky reef, sometimes under rocks. Feeds on encrusting sponge Leucetta sp.

Additional Notes: Colour may vary according to the colour of the sponge food source. Rarely encountered due to its cryptic colouration and small size, growing only to around 5mm in length.
