Distribution: Abundant in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Distributed throughout the Western Indo-Pacific region. In Australia recorded from south west Western Australia, across the tropical north, the Great Barrier Reef south to northern New South Wales and including Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands.
Ecological Notes: More common in the temperate areas of its range, found in areas of shallow reef and rocky foreshores.
Additional Notes: Dark brown or green in colour, colonies consist of a perforated or solid horizontal plate with irregular upright branchlets. Colonies in shallow areas of the Solitary Islands Marine Park may exceed 2m in width.
