Improving live feeds for ornamental larval fish aquaculture, an outline of the PhD undertaken by Alex Basford.
Most marine fish in the aquarium trade are sourced from the wild. Aquaculture has been touted as an alternative to wild harvest for popular species. However, a persistent bottleneck in finfish aquaculture is during the larval rearing stage, often due to inadequate foods. My PhD aims to develop new strategies to improve live feeds for fish larvae, with a focus on ornamental marine fish (such as Anemonefish and Blue Tangs). The outcomes of my PhD will hopefully improve the viability of ornamental fish aquaculture as an alternative to wild harvesting.
The evening will start at 7pm, there will be a raffle and tea/coffee after. All members and visitors are welcome.
