SEAGRASS SEARCH FOR SEAHORSES AND PIPEFISH

On Sunday, February 12, Steve Dalton is planning to run a seagrass search for seahorses and pipefish and any other interesting critters at Boambee Creek. The aim is to get a better understanding of what creatures utilise seagrass as a indication of the importance this habitat is to estuarine fish communities.
High tide is around 10.15am.

Those planning to take part should meet at the Boambee Creek Reserve at 9:15 am (exact location to be confirmed), were we can sort out groups and equipment. People are encouraged to bring along personal water craft that they can use to paddle along the creek as well as snorkelling equipment to enable them to swim over the seagrass recording any interesting footage they see.

Steve will bring along nine Gopro cameras that can be used, but if anyone has a camera, either video or stills, they are welcome to bring them along also.

Once we have snorkelled over the seagrass we will meet back at one of the BBQ shelters for a discussion on what people saw, collection of equipment and a sausage sizzle and soft drinks for the kids, large and small.

This is a great opportunity for all our members and their families to take part and kids especially are encouraged to come along. If you are interested in joining this event please contact us on info@surg.org.au. In your email let us know if you have a camera or watercraft (SUP or kayak etc).

Steve is attempting to contact North Coast Holiday Park at Boambee in the hope of parking fee waivers for our members, but in the event that is not forthcoming, members are advised there is a $5 gold coin entry fee which will be refunded from the grant.

Steve hopes this activity will be well attended and successful, and further excursions on other estuaries will be planned in the next few weeks.
