Distribution:

Moderately common and widespread throughout the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Reported from Australian and New Zealand waters as common.

Ecological Notes:

Prefers rocky reef habitat from low tide mark to a depth of 30m. Feeds on sponges.

Additional Notes:

Extremely variable colouration and pattern. Often seen in groups or pairs, and often mating. Grows to 60mm.
