Distribution:  Uncommon in the SIMP. Found throughout south east Australia.
Ecological Notes:  Frequents areas of coral rubble and coralline algae. Like all abalones it is a herbivore.
Additional Notes:  Often found with H. brazieri and may hybridize with it. See PROS0018. H. hargravesi differs in that it has definite annular rings and green patches are missing. Grows to about 40mm.
