Species:  vitellus
Distribution:  Common at all islands, headlands and reefs in the SIMP. Ranges throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
Ecological Notes:  Found in crevices, under rocks and slabs of dead coral.
Additional Notes:  Mantle colour varies from blotched black to dark brown and grey. Papillae are yellow or brownish white. Dorsal surface of shell is brown with white spots (leading to common name of Milk Spot Cowrie), and the underside is pinkish cream. Egg masses are yellow. Specimens found in the SIMP are generally larger than those found at lower latitudes. See also PROS0002-1 Grows to 70mm.
