The Solitary Islands Underwater Research Group Inc. (SURG), is a group of dedicated volunteers conducting research in the Solitary Islands Marine Park. Formed in 1985, SURG membership is comprised of underwater naturalists, photographers and scuba divers, and our research provides habitat information and other data which may be used for the ongoing management of the Solitary Islands Marine Park.
New members are always welcome. While we are primarily interested in the underwater environment, it is not necessary to be a SCUBA diver to be part of SURG activities, and non-diving members are also welcome. Training nights are provided to help divers wishing to take part in underwater research dives learn how to identify the fauna under study.
SURG is incorporated under the Model Rules for the Incorporation of Associations, Associations Incorporation Act 1984. On incorporation, one amendment made to the Model Rules by deleting original Rule 25 and substituting new rule 25 is attached, see link below.
